In the subendocardial tissue is a cluster of Purkinje fibers located in the center of the field. Note their large size in
Holdings,
relation to normal cardiac myocytes. Purkinje fibers have myofibrils and are capable of contraction. Their primary
function is to conduct the impulse for contraction to the ventricular myocytes.
