Lymph Node Secondary Follicles

Follicular hyperplasia: note the variety of sizes and shapes of the germinal centers. This feature is frequently a clue to a benign process.

The surface or border of the lymphatic tissue is at the top out of site. Note the mantle zone that is thicker toward the surface. The germinal center is polarized: more blastic cells with more and bluer cytoplasm inhabit the bottom half of the germinal center, where there is also greater mitotic activity and more pale macrophages.
